Just How Hot is Hell Anyway?

1. What Does the Bible say?

New Testament: from the mouth of Jesus:

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Luke 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

2. Do People actually go there?

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

3. I must WARN you.

Mark 9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

4. A Personal Application.

The summer of my junior year in High school I lived with my sister and my brother-n-law to help with the harvest. On a Thursday evening we went to where my father owned a general store to buy needed supplies. My father asked me to fill a ladies car with gasoline. The car was an older model and did not have a vent pipe in the gas tank.
As the tank was filling it built up air pressure and blew gas back out of the tank, soaking my clothes from my waist to my feet. As I returned inside the store I heard someone say; What if someone would strike a match” and someone did. I became engulfed in flames. I started to run because I did not know what else to do. My friend chased me down and threw me to the ground and smothered out the flames. By this time my body from my waist down was badly burned. I was carried to my sister’s car. Her husband was driving and I was held in my sister’s arms all the way to the hospital. I can still hear her saying; “keep breathing I am not going to let you die.”

How can you escape this fire that shall never be quenched?

Mark 9:44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Thought: There was someone there to pull me out of the fire but if you reject Jesus Christ as Saviour there will not be anyone there for you. You may think the man who lit the match was foolish, but how much more foolish to reject salvation and burn for eternity?
